1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how icetester.org ("we", "us", or "the site") handles information when you use our free ICE server testing tool and read our articles. We designed this site to collect as little data as possible: the testing tool runs entirely in your browser, and we operate no backend that receives your test data. This policy also explains the cookies used by our advertising partners, which is the one area where third-party data collection occurs.
2. The Testing Tool Is Client-Side
All STUN/TURN/TURNS tests are executed by your own browser using the WebRTC
RTCPeerConnection API. When you run a test:
- Your browser communicates directly with the STUN or TURN servers you specify. Test traffic does not pass through our infrastructure.
- Server addresses, usernames, and credentials you enter are never transmitted to us. They are used only by your browser to contact the servers you are testing.
- Test results are displayed locally and are not uploaded anywhere.
Note that, by design, the servers you test will see your IP address — that is how STUN and TURN work. Only test servers you trust or operate.
3. Local Storage
We use your browser's localStorage to save your server configurations and your last 50 test
results, so they are still there when you return. This data is stored only on your device, never leaves
your browser, and can be removed at any time using the "Clear History" button in the tool or by clearing
your browser's site data for icetester.org.
4. Advertising and Cookies (Google AdSense)
We display advertising provided by Google AdSense to keep this tool free. Advertising networks use cookies and similar technologies:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.
- For details on how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Apart from advertising, this site sets no tracking cookies of its own and currently uses no third-party analytics service.
5. Server Logs
Like virtually all websites, our hosting provider may keep standard access logs (IP address, user agent, requested page, timestamp) for security and operational purposes. These logs are not used to identify individual visitors and are retained only as long as operationally necessary.
6. Your Rights
Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/EEA under GDPR or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Because we do not maintain user accounts or store personal data on our servers, most such requests are best addressed through your browser settings and the advertising opt-out links in Section 4. For anything else, contact us and we will do our best to help.
7. Children's Privacy
This site is a technical tool intended for developers and network administrators. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add new features or change advertising partners. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
